Italy – the beautiful country is called “the boot” for its boot-like shape.  It is often refers as “the peninsula” due to its strategic position in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Italy has a rich historical background also. Italy is renowned for its influential Western culture and cuisine. Every city of Italy has their own and unique identity that is known worldwide. For this, here we will introduce Italy in detail that mainly focuses on the tourists -who are thinking about Italy.

Geographical Details and Distribution of Italy

Italy

Italy’s official name is the “Italian Republic”. It is part of southern and western Europe. This beautiful country is also big in size. It is one of the 10th longest countries in the world and the area is 301,340 square kilometres. This country shares its border with many countries like France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and two small countries Vatican City and San Marino.

The population of the country is around 60 million. Most of the people are Christian. Around 84% of people are following this region. Beside this, including others -11.6% people are non-religious, 1% people are Muslims and others. A large number of people from different countries come here to visit this beautiful country.

The capital city of Italy -”Rome” is historically enriched. It is part of central Italy as whole Italy is divided into three geographical regions. The other two are the northern zone and the southern zone. Every zone has their own geographical characteristics and culture also. And that’s why the country that is something very special and thus attracts the tourists.

Cities and Towns

The beautiful Italy is a very big country. It has geographically divided into three parts that we know already. According to the parts or zone the cities and towns are divided. Here we will see them and also see some common characteristics of these cities.

Northern Part:

The northern part is bordered by the Alps Mountains. And this part is home to the Po Valley, the most fertile plain of the whole country. In this region major cities are Milan, Turin, Venice, Florence etc.

Milan:

Milan is known for Fashion and Design capital of Italy. There is a tendency of growing western culture than other regions of the country. Milan is known for Duomo Cathedral, Scala Opera House.

Venice:

Venice is a very unique city in the northern part. Its unique as it was built on canals. Venice city is famous for its Gondolas, St. Marks Square, and The Pose’s Palace.

Florence:

Florence is the capital of Italy’s Tuscany region. It is known for Renaissance Art architecture, including Michelangelo’s David and Botticelli’s birth of Venus. It’s the most iconic sight of Duomo.

Central Part

The central part is home to the Apennine Mountains. It runs the length of the Italian peninsula. This part is known for its Rolling hills, Vine yards and historical cities. Some major cities of this part are Rome, Pisa, and Siena etc.

Rome:

Rome is the capital of Italy. It has a great history. It has Countless ancient ruins. The Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon are some most common historical places that are known worldwide.

Pisa:

Pisa is best known for its Leaning Tower, but it also boasts a beautiful cathedral and baptistery. Located 220 miles (354 km) from Rome, Pisa is a budget-friendly destination for tourists.

Siena:

Siena is a medieval hill town. Most of the place is disguised by the medieval brick buildings. This city is fan-shaped Central Square. It is known for its Palio Horse Race, Gothic Cathedral.

Southern Part:

The southern region of Italy, known for its mountains, is home to the beautiful islands of Sicily and Sardinia. This area’s climate is typically Mediterranean, hot dry summer and mild winters. Major cities are including Naples, Bari, Palermo, and Sorrento.

Naples:

this is called a vibrant city. It has its own rich history and culture. It is the regional capital of Campania. It is the third   largest city of Italy. It is known for its pizza and its archaeological ruins including Pompeii, Herculaneum.

Sorrento:

It is a very beautiful coastal town overlooking the bay of Naples.  It’s renowned for its lemons and stunning views of Mount Vesuvius.

Palermo:

Palermo, the historic capital of Sicily, embodies a unique blend of tradition and culture. Its rich history, diverse architecture, and culinary heritage, influenced by Arab, Norman, and Baroque elements, make it a truly enchanting destination.”

Italy’s governmental framework reflects its regional diversity, adopting a unitary state model with decentralized governance. While the central government retains overall authority, it delegates powers to the country’s 20 regions, which exhibit varying degrees of autonomy. Five regions, including Sardinia, Sicily, Trentino, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Valle d’Aosta, possess special charters granting them additional self-governing powers. These regions focus primarily on essential services such as taxation, healthcare, and education to foster development. Nevertheless, some regions are currently facing crises. Hopefully government will take initiatives to solve this problem.

The international image of Italy is known to all. It is viewed favorably by other countries. This country has their major economic power. They become one of the third world developing countries. They are members of the European Union that most united organizations we know. Then they are part of NATO also. And the most common things about them are their beauty in architecture and historic places. Other countries always give a special priority about Italy.

Cultural View

 Italy has been a beacon of culture since ancient times with its pillars of civilization encompassing architecture, art, opera, literature, film, and fashion.

From the early 19th century, western culture grew in Italy. So it can be said that Italy was the super-power in Europe. And the growth of this culture spread throughout Europe.

 Its architecture, unique fashion sense all the cultural development process comes from the ancient history as well. For this the ultimate cultural activities always place a huge priority for the outsider.

All the cities and towns of a particular region have their own historical culture. Every city’s traditional buildings, different architectural blocks carry great value of different cultures. The special thing is that every region is different from other regions and they strictly maintain their formalities.

Italy

Italy is one of the most beautiful countries as we all know. Every city of this country has a history. In ancient and medieval period, different emperors made their traditional buildings. Every building and other construction is exceptional and represent history and unique architecture of their city. It is very aesthetic to visit. For this visitors and tourists from inside and outside countries come to Italy. Every year both native and foreign people have seen everywhere in the country.

Capital city Rome is in the central part of Italy. Here the main tourist point is the Colosseum, the ancient architecture gladiatorial contests, public executions, and animal hunts. The place of Trevi Fountain famous for its beauty and legend structure and ensure return to Rome. There is also a small independent city called Vatican City. The Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museum are the top destinations for the most visitors.

In Florence there is a world famous Museum called Uffizi Gallery, there are huge collections of Renaissance paintings. There some other famous places are Pontee Vecchio, Accademia Gallery.

In Venice there are some places that attract so much to the visitor. St. Marks square is the heart of Venice. There visitors will see lots of cafes, shops and churches.  Then the Grand Canal, the main watery of Venice. Then the Doge’s palace, the former residence of Doge of Venice. Now it has become a central museum for the Venetian that represents art and history.

In Milan the fashion city of Italy has some historical places to visit.  First of all the Gothic Cathedral is one of the largest Cathedrals in the world. Then the name of the church is Santa Maria Delle Grazie very beautiful to visit. There is an art gallery called Pinacoteca di Brera with a collection of Italian paintings such a beautiful place for the tourists.
